What is Assisted Hatching?
An embryo has to hatch from its
"shell" to implant. In some patients particularly
patients over 37 years of age and with less than perfect embryos,
assisted hatching may be beneficial. Hatching also may be
beneficial with frozen embryo transfer because of the hardening in
the Zona around the embryos with freezing.

How
is Assisted Hatching Done?
A.H. is done using several methods.
Acid tyrode is used to created a presice hole in the zona.
Mechanical hatching using a special needle under the
inverted microscope is used to create a slit in the
zona.Laser can be used to create a hole in the zona. Each of
these methods has been used successfully. Laser has not been
approved for human use in the US and
