In addition to personalized clinical care, Newlife is also dedicated to providing the patient with emotional and psychological support. As a Newlife patient, you have access to our counselling and wellness services. Whether you have already been diagnosed, or just beginning to explore treatment options, you can be confident in knowing the Newlife Fertility Centre staff is dedicated to helping you achieve your dream of starting or completing your family.
Because infertility assessment is a medical specialty, we do require a referral from a doctor in order for the visit to be covered by your health card. We always aim to see new patients within two weeks of their referral.
It is strongly advised that the couple attend the first consultation as fertility diagnosis requires the assessment of both partners. You should both bring both your health cards to this assessment. Out of province patients are covered by their provincial health insurance with the exception of Quebec. In the case of out of country and Quebec patients all services will need to be paid directly.
When an individual or couple has been attempting to conceive unsuccessfully, there is often a high degree of anxiety and frustration present. We feel that knowing what to expect with the first consultation may reduce some of that anxiety. The consultation is an opportunity to review both your and your partner’s reproductive health, as well help you both feel more comfortable with the process.
The first visit typically will include discussing any prior fertility testing and treatment and any family history that is relevant, such as a history of miscarriages, genetic disorders and hormonal problems. Taking into consideration your health status and age, your doctor will go over all of the recommended testing and treatment options available to you.
Your initial consultation will last approximately one hour. You will be seen by a nurse who will document your history or you will complete detailed history forms. You will then be seen by the physician who will ultimately oversee your care. Depending on the physician you see, a physical exam may be performed on the first visit or a subsequent visit.
Please print, fill-up, and bring the Evaluate Your Male/Female Infertility Form and show it to the fertility doctor and he/she will discuss to you your treatment options.
